Contemporary Collage

One-day Workshop

Students will create a piece of art worthy of being put in a frame in the Contemporary 3D Collage Workshop!

Students will choose and arrange images, select a color palette, and develop a center of interest to create an aesthetically pleasing framed composition.

You are encouraged to bring your own fabric, paper, beads and small collage objects in a variety of shapes and sizes that reflect your taste.  These items should be meaningful to you, such as concert tickets, letters, maps from trips you’ve taken, memorabilia, dried flower, pressed leaves, and old book pages. The most important item you are required to bring is a couple of photocopies or laser prints of pictures you’ve taken in a variety of sizes in both color and black and white. The more material means the more design options you’ll have. Bring any paints, matte medium you have. Keep in mind, no image or object should larger than 9”. Glue, wire, some paper, some paints, brushes, and simple objects will be provided PLUS a white or black 9”x 9” shadow box frame.

Students attending the Mixed Media Portrait Workshop will create a unique portrait made from a variety of new and old materials. You will take ordinary objects and use them in reimagined ways to create the portrait:   matchsticks that become hair, lips made from beads, or wire into eyeglass frames. Please bring meaningful items to incorporate into the composition. You can also bring your own bits of fabric, paper, paints, beads and objects in a variety of shapes and sizes. Glue, paper, paint and other found objects will be provided. 

Student MUST bring a couple of good photocopies of a head shot of the person (maybe yourself) you want to base the portrait on. The face must fill up an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper – too small doesn’t work.

Mixed Media “Painting”

Creative Arts Center of Dallas

Design and develop your visual dialogue as you work with multiple materials and create an art piece from concepts including imagery and symbolism. You will be working with acrylic paint and other items such as paper, fabric, text, found objects or packaging, play with textures and apply various mediums to create a vibrant work of art on a Gesso box frame. Supplies and painting surface are provided.

$145.00 for members

Mixed Media “Painting”

Five Week Class

 

May 23 thru June 27, 2019

1:00-4:00 at The Mix

We've had so much fun this year and there is always more to the process of making art... students will learn how to develop and work from concepts including, text, imagery, and symbolism. We will work with professional grade acrylic archival medium paints, and learn how to make enlarged images on paper. During class time students will learn to create and plan for a work of art with a selected themes. Minimal supplies for the class are provided and there is a list of supplies given once registration/payment of class is done. Students should come ready to work the first day of class with all materials.

A list of supplies for class will be provided after registration.

Private and Semi-private lessons

A private lesson studio painting class is for the intermediate student. The student will learn how to develop and work from concepts including, text, imagery, and symbolism, and will work with acrylic archival mediums and develop a visual dialogue. The student will leave with an understanding of layering, glazing, multi-dimensional collage, masking and pattern fields. One first day of class we will begin working from poetry and text, so bring a poem or text of some kind that you find profound. Minimal supplies for the class will be provided, yet students should be prepared to begin working and bring own supplies for the first day of class.

Private Class: $65 hr with a 2.5 hr minimum
